It all started on December 11, 1952 in Honolulu, Hawaii, Queens Hospital. The Miraflor family moved to Merced, CA at his age of eight years old. Than the family moved to southern California to Whittier, CA and San Gabriel, CA and La Puente, CA and in 1968 moved to Stockton, California.
Art is an original student of Serrada Escrima from Grand Master Angel Cabales in 1968 - 1972. Art assisted GM Cabales in teaching Guru Dan Inosanto in 1969, at Dan's parents’ house in Stockton, once a month on Saturday and Sunday for about 15 months. Dan, Richard Bustillo, and Lucky Lucay Lucay would drive up from LA, and crash in Dan’s parents living room, and practice for two days.
In 1972-1974 Art got drafted and joined the United States Marine Corps and received an Honorable Discharge as a Viet Nam Veteran and received three Meritorious Promotions. While overseas, Art learned Kuntaw under Grand Master Carlito A. Lanada Sr. in Olongapo, Philippines.
After Art got discharged, he started learning Du Fondo of Bahala Na from Grand Master Leo Giron in Stockton, CA. Since 1968 Art has been teaching and promoting the Art of Escrima and opening new schools overseas. Grand Master Miraflor started the Practical Self Defense Course in 1992, and since graduated over 2000 men and women in this everyday practical learning system. Grand Master Miraflor was inducted into the Filipino Martial Art's Hall of Fame as "Instructor of The Year" in 1999.
Art is the Owner/Founder of Mirarada Escrima Academy in Stockton, CA. His school is one of the oldest schools in the same location since 1978. They teach the Mirarada System of Escrima, which is a combination of, Serrada, Du Fondo, and Kuntaw.
Some of Art’s other notable Instructors, Students, and Mentors are; Rena Latosa, Dan Inosanto, Richard Bustillo, Lucky Lucay Lucay, Dentoy Revilar, Billy Foster, Art Diocson, Alfredo Bandalan, Max Sarimento, just to name a few and many more.
Art also is the Owner/Founder of Workplace and Employee Safety Consulting, a Consulting company for employees of Cities, Counties, State, and Federal for Safety. This was started in 1992 in Stockton, CA. they teach Code Enforcement Officers, Animal Control, Parking Enforcement Officers, Utility workers, and office personnel. They also teach church ushers, chain store employees, theater ushers, hospital employees, and any employee that wants to learn how to do their job safer.
Art comes from a family of eight (8) children, born and raised in a Christian family, happily married to Diana Miraflor since August of 1977, with four children and eight grandchildren. As of this writing, Art has been to 23 countries around the world, including a year and a half of Missionary work in the Baltic's, the former Soviet Union. He has his California State Contracting License to build houses and has been in construction since 1974. He's worked for the City of Stockton for 14 years as a Rehab Housing Inspector and Senior Code Enforcement Officer. Art is retired from the United States Federal Government of eight years. His current job is with Greystar, the largest apartment builder and management company in the United States, as a QC Manager in the Dallas, TX area.
